I remember watching an episode of the Jerry Seinfeld
show where Jerry and George were trying to come up with a subject for a TV Pilot
and they were drawing a blank. I know exactly how they must have felt because
there are many times when I sit down to write the weekly post for my blog and I
struggle to come up with a topic. This is one of those times.
People often talk about writers’ block and,
thankfully, when it comes to my fiction, I’ve never experienced it. But, when
it comes to my blog, it’s a whole other story. Most topics about writing have
been done to death and it’s difficult to come up with fresh ideas. So, I’ve
decided to do what Jerry and George did. To write a post about nothing.
I’m thinking that this might be a good opportunity to
open my blog to suggestions from my readers. Is there a topic you’d like me to
write about in future posts? Do you have any questions about writing or
publishing that I might be able to address? Or, any other questions? Please
feel free to leave a comment if you do or you can send me an email. My contact information is on the "About the Author" page, which you'll find on the top right of my blog. I'd love to hear from you!
Never got into Seinffeld. This is why I don't blog on a regular schedule. I blog when I have something I want to say. Rather than struggling to come up with a meaningful blog topic on a weekly (or even monthly) schedule I prefer to devote the time to my fiction and articles.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of Seinfeld either, John. I used to watch the show with my (ex) husband. :)
DeleteYou make a strong point for posting less frequently but I (normally) enjoy writing two or three posts a month because I want to stay in contact with my readers. However, if this "dry spell" doesn't clear up, I may have to resort to your plan.
Pat, I think you lose blog visitors by not posting on a regular basis. I usually post on Saturdays at "Mysterious Writers" and alternative Fridays at "Murderous Musings" and "Make Mine Mystery". I also have blog sites titled "The View From My Mountaintop" and" Writers of the West."
ReplyDeleteI agree, Jean. That's why I'm determined to come up with new ideas that will interest readers and keep them coming back. I'd love to hear what readers want to read about.
DeleteWhen Seinfeld was new, I didn't like it. Now that I'm watching it many years later, I really get a kick out of it. : ) You're right about so many topics already being done. How about one regarding marketing and/or promotion? We can never get enough of those.

I like that idea, Marja. I'm writing it down the second I finish typing this. Thanks!
DeleteSeveral years ago I started writing a weekly blog but gradually found myself doing other things. The past of couple of years, I posted only two blogs I think. Now I'm back to writing one a month. I agree with Marja--promotion and marketing are topics I need.
ReplyDeletePat,
DeleteI'd love to do a post on promotion and marketing where my "writers forum" would truly be a forum, a place where we could all combine our ideas to come up with good plans to sell our books. I'll have to give this some thought. Thanks!
