In
the dark of night, murder strikes on Route 66, and once again Hubert James
Champion III finds himself having to face realities he’d rather run from.
Indeed, within two days, Hugh finds himself embroiled in murder on a national
scale, seeking justice for petty crimes of a local nature—and very close to
home, reviving his skills as a psychologist to help people who have become friends. Indeed, his friends need him.
In
addition, there are troubling mysteries of the personal kind still tucked away
in the recesses of Hugh’s subconscious. He may be still “hiding out” in the
desert, but East Coast ties continue to haunt and thwart his building hopes for
the future.
Fortunately,
he has his ravens to counsel him, and through it all—the Mojave winds continue to blow…

Madeline (M.M.) Gornell has five
published mystery novels—including PSWA awarding winners Uncle Si’s Secret
and Lies of Convenience (also
a Hollywood Book Festival honorable Mention), Death of a Perfect Man, and Reticence of Ravens (a finalist for the Eric Hoffer 2011
fiction Prize, the da Vinci Eye for cover art, and the Montaigne Medal for most
thought provoking book). And her latest is Counsel of Ravens (June release date)—her first sequel and a continuation of
Hubert Champion’s Mojave saga. She continues to be inspired by historic
Route 66, and expects to release in early 2014 her first mystery thriller—Rhodes.
Madeline is a lifetime lover
of mysteries, and besides reading and writing, she is also a potter with a
fondness for stoneware and reduction firing. She lives with her husband and
assorted canines in the Mojave High Desert near the internationally revered
Route 66 (Newberry Springs).
Madeline is giving away a paper copy of "Counsel of Ravens" to one lucky person who leaves a comment.
Madeline has chosen not one, but two, winners! The winners are Mary Lowery and Eileen Obser. I've sent Eileen's email address to Madeline but, Mary, I'm sorry but I don't have yours. Please email Madeline at mmgornell@earthlink.net with your mailing address. Congratulations, ladies!

Sounds great! I would love to read this!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Patricia, for featuring my latest! I love visiting you and connecting with your blog followers. I'll be on the road and out of town most of the day with iffy internet connections--no, I don't have a smartphone yet, sigh--but I will check in if I can and try to response to comments during the day. But if I don't please know I'll catch up this evening, and a pre-thank you to everyone who takes the time to stop by! And I'm looking forward to sending a hot-off-the-press copy of Counsel of Ravens to one lucky visitor. It's still hot and humid out here in the desert, but it does plan to be a beautiful day for me to be on the road!
ReplyDeleteMary, thanks for stopping by so early, and soooo glad Counsel of Ravens sounds like a story that would interest you.
Madeline
Madeline, I loved "Counsel of Ravens" and, as always, I'm thrilled to have you as a guest on my blog. Happy Writing!
DeleteI don't need a copy because guess what? I already have one and read it--and I loved it. The descriptions of the desert are wonderful, you can tell she has first hand knowledge. The mystery itself is surprising with great characters. I'm a fan, can you tell?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marilyn! I think you already know how much your kind words mean to me.
DeleteSounds like a great mystery - packed full of intrigue. And thanks to Pat for bringing you to our attention.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you stopped by James, and yes there is a lot of stuff (intrigue going on)--which is what I like to read, with lots of characters--so I try to write that way. Yes, Pat is a wonderful supporter of other authors, can't say enough good stuff about her efforts in all our behalves.(sp)
DeleteJames--you will love this one. And, it is a sequel to another MM Gornell mystery entitled RETICENCE OF RAVENS--a great one-two read and a fine journey with a great setting and cast of characters.
DeleteHi Madeline and Pat. Counsel of Ravens sounds like an interesting read. I'd love to have a print copy to read and review.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Evelyn, continue to follow all your goings-on FB! Yes, you're definitely in the drawing. (Buster does the choosing...)
DeleteHi, Madeline and Pat,
ReplyDeleteI love the book title, quite intriguing! Madeline, wishing you much success with your new mystery novel.
So glad you like the title Jacqueline! Sometimes titles seem challenging, but this one came easily. (had a little help from my hubby) Thanks for your words of encouragement!
DeleteExcellent write up. Just shared this on twitter, google+ and Facebook. Looks like an excellent read.
ReplyDeleteI saw where you shared, Chris, MUCH appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to stop by, and share!
DeleteBoth an excellent review and an excellent book! Can you tell I've already read it? For some reason, whenever I read Madeline's books I can almost hear haunting music in the background.
ReplyDeleteMarja McGraw
Oh, Marja, haunting music--maybe on the audio edition--I'm dreaming of course! Thanks for your kind words--as always!
DeleteThis is a terrific book, full of interesting characters and suspense. I don't need a copy because I own the book and highly recommend it to readers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words, Colleen! I wanted to tell you, we're having such humidity-soaked weather--all summer. Did we move to your area? (smile) I still get Peach Tree Corners.
DeleteMystery, Route 66 and the Mojave Desert. Yes, sounds like a winning combination.
ReplyDeleteMystery is certainly my favorite genre, and living in the Mojave on Route 66 has/is certainly interesting! Thanks for stopping me--and much success with your novels!
DeleteThanks for introducing us to Madeline, Pat. She's obviously another great mystery writer I'll have to read sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteEileen, Madeline definitely is that! "Reticence of Ravens" and "Counsel of Ravens" were both fantastic!
DeleteEileen and Pat, you've made my day--which has been LONG. But coming home to read your and everyone else's(not sure that's a word) kind comments has really buoyed my spirits! The longer I write, the more I appreciate the camaraderie and kindnesses of other authors.
DeleteI have not read any of your books but they sound very intriguing. I am glad I saw this post. I will look for you on Amazon. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, so glad you stopped by, too! Hope you enjoy my mysteries, and always love hearing back from readers--good or bad! Thanks for taking the time to comment, and searching me out on Amazon!
ReplyDeleteMadeline
