Mystery of the Month: A Ton of Gold

A Ton of Gold
A contemporary mystery/suspense novel

Can long forgotten, old folk tales affect the lives of people today? In A Ton of Gold, one certainly affected young, brilliant Crystal Moore.  Two people are killed, others threatened, a house burned and an office fire-bombed – all because of an old folk tale, greed and ignorance.

On top of that, the man who nearly destroyed Crystal emotionally is coming back.  This time he can destroy her career.  She’ll need all the help she can get from a former bull rider, her streetwise housemate and her feisty 76 year-old grandmother.

Getting to know Evelyn David

Evelyn David is the pseudonym for a pair of mystery writers, Marian Borden and Rhonda Dossett. Marian lives in New York and is the author of ten nonfiction books on a wide variety of topics ranging from veterans benefits to playgroups for toddlers! For more information on these books, please visit her web site at http://www.marianedelmanborden.com  Rhonda lives in Muskogee, Oklahoma, is the director of the coal program for the state, and in her spare time enjoys imagining and writing funny, scary mysteries. Marian and Rhonda write their mystery series via the internet. While many fans who attend mystery conventions have now chatted with both halves of Evelyn David, Marian and Rhonda have yet to meet in person.

Let’s get to know Evelyn David.

Patricia: What are your favorite things to do when you’re not reading or writing?

Rhonda: I love watching dramas on television and working in my flower gardens in the spring/summer.

Marian: I love to cook. When I'm not figuring out novel ways to create murder and mayhem, I'm scanning food blogs.

Patricia: What’s your favorite color? Why?

Rhonda: Blue. It's the color of water and I've always loved swimming and being out on the lake. It makes me feel happy.

Marian: I also love the color blue. I find it soothing, but I definitely went through an "orange" period in my life.

Patricia: How would you describe yourself, personality wise?

Rhonda: I'm a Type-A personality with a sense of humor. I'm not really a "people" person. I enjoy time alone with my books, movies, and computer - and dislike crowds and noise.

Marian: I think I have a split personality. I enjoy being around people and hearing their "stories," but then I definitely need quiet and solitude.

Patricia: Do you like to travel? If so, what are some of your favorite places to go and/or what was your favorite vacation?

Rhonda: I love to travel, but I don't like doing formal tours. I love to just spend a week at the beach sitting in a lounger and reading. My favorite vacation to date was spent in Nags Head, North Carolina, exploring the Outer Banks.

Marian: I always like traveling in retrospect. When I'm in the midst of it, I miss my home, my familiar surroundings. But when I think back, I've had a wonderful time. I loved visiting England and Scotland, adored Prince Edward Island in Canada (they have the best regional tea manufacturer), and would love to go back to Napa.

Patricia: How would you complete this sentence? If I won a million dollars, I would  ------

Rhonda: Pay all my bills and then buy a small house on a lake. Of course a million dollars doesn't go as far any more so I'd still have to work – and write mysteries.

Marian:  Besides donating some to charity, giving some to my kids, I'd love to have extra dollars to go to the theater whenever I want.

Evelyn David is the author of the Brianna Sullivan Mysteries (9 to date), The Sullivan Investigations Mystery series (3 novels plus two short stories) and the stand-alone mystery, Zoned for Murder.
